Key Stage 4

What is systems and control?

Systems and control will enable students to acquire skills in technology systems using electronic control. Students will learn about manufacturing processes and apply them to the design and making of a quality control system.

The course involves

Analysing and evaluating products and processes
Planning and making product
Considering how past and present design technology affects society

Students will

Use a range of components processes and techniques and industrial practice
Design and make products in quantity

Coursework

Work produced during Year 10 develops skills, knowledge and understanding. This information is applied to one main piece of coursework during year 11. The final coursework project is 60% of the final GCSE GRADE.

Examples of design and make projects

Alarm systems
Promotional display systems
Working models of everyday systems e.g. traffic lights
Interactive educational toys
