Brumby science club
has been running successfully for over six years
now. It first started in 2000 and has become so
popular that we had to introduce another group
after only 3 years.
It is open, initially to pupils from years 6 –
9, but anyone interested in science is welcome.
Club sessions are free of charge and take place
every Thursday from 3.00pm – 4.00pm in the
science department (Clydesdale block) and are
led by Mrs Dawber.
Our main aim is to stimulate pupil’s interest
and understanding of science while keeping an
enjoyable and fun atmosphere. It can also aide
pupils in the transition from primary to
secondary science.
During the sessions pupils carry out practical
experiments every week. These range from making
slime, growing crystals, to investigating
parachute fall and many other exciting topics.
Pupils are encouraged to participate in the
British Association for Young Scientists awards
scheme run by the British Association for the
Advancement of Science. Through this they can
achieve a bronze, silver or gold certificate and
badge for the work they do during club sessions.
