In years 10 and 11 pupils follow the Edexcel
GCSE music course.
The topics in this course are;
Repetition and contrast
New Directions
Popular Music in Context
Rhythms, Scales and Modes from around the
world
Pupils are expected to perform in groups and
on their own, compose music from the above
topics and listen and analyse music from the
said topics.
Performance and compositional coursework is
worth 60%, while the remaining 40% is a
terminal listening paper. Provision within
the timetable for GCSE music equates to 2
hours a week for each year group.
In 2006 75% of pupils taking the exam
achieved an A-C pass. 100% achieved an A-G
pass.
