In music pupils have access to the most up to date technology
and use it daily in lessons. This includes a suite of Apple
Imacs, electronic drum kits, sound module guitars, steel pans,
keyboards and a range of orchestral instruments. The music
department has five visiting peripatetic teachers who deliver
instrumental lessons on woodwind, brass, percussion, upper
strings and lower stringed instruments providing the school
orchestra with a good healthy sound.
All pupils are given the chance to learn to play an instrument,
join a group and opt to do GCSE music at keystage 4 without
discrimination. All instrumental lessons are provided free of
charge. The motto in the music department is “LET’S ENJOY”!
Key Stage 3
Year 7

within these topics and work in groups.

African music and Blues music. Within these topics we perform on
instruments, compose in groups and on the Imacs, play along with
original music and listen and identify key concepts within these
topics.
Year 9
In year 9 pupils have the opportunity to follow a personalized
learning unit where they choose their preferred instrument and
work on their own performance choosing their own music. Pupils
then form their own groups and do cover versions of the music
they like and listen too. We also look at 20th Century music
