Key Stage 4

Course Content

Food Technology involves students in a “design and make” process with food products. Throughout the two year course students analyse and research design problems. They generate and develop a range of ideas and then make, to a high standard, the design which suits the requirements they have identified. Industrial practices and the use of IT are also studied.

In Year 10 they are involved in a number of short design tasks which prepares them for their major coursework in Year 11.

2 hours each week are spent on practical work for which students need to bring ingredients.

1 hour is spent on the design work and evaluation.

Topics covered include:-

Cakes and Pastries
Cook-chill products
Yeast cookery
Desserts

Exam Requirements

60% of the marks are awarded for the coursework and 40% for the written examination at the end of year 11.
