EXPRESSIVE
ARTS – DRAMA YEAR 7
Drama is an essential element of the school
curriculum at KS3.
Drama is made up of 3 areas
Making
Performing
Responding /Evaluating
Making
Pupils experiment with different dramatic styles
and incorporate a range of dramatic conventions
in their plays.
They are given the opportunity to use their
imagination and creativity in improvisation.
Performing
Pupils use a range of skills and techniques
required to perform a play to an identified
audience. They contribute to the management and
technical operation of a performance.
Responding / Evaluating
Pupils make a judgement of their work ( evaluate
). They demonstrate a knowledge of dramatic
styles and conventions.
Aims of the course
The aim of the course is to encourage
development of natural playmaking in a
controlled environment so that it is deepened
and extended. The influence of theatrical
techniques are introduced and developed.
The pace of development will vary from one class
to another. Story material for the plays can be
taken from other areas of the curriculum.
The year 7 course is intended to:
Develop and control discipline
Introduce pupils to creative playmaking in a
manner that does not impose inhibitions
Develop self-awareness
Develop group awareness
Introduce simple dramatic structure
Introduce dramatic skills
Encourage performance
Relate to other areas of work in the curriculum
EXPRESSIVE ARTS – DANCE IN YEAR 7
Aims and objectives
To promote physical activity and healthy
lifestyles, pupils should be taught:-
To adopt the best possible posture and
appropriate use of the body
To develop positive attitudes, pupils should be
taught :-
To be mindful of others and the environment
To ensure safe practice, pupils should be taught
:-
How to lift, carry, place bodies and use
equipment safely
Pupils should be taught to perform dances,
showing control and sensitivity to the music and
style of the dance
To support their own dance compositions with
descriptions of their intentions and outcomes
To describe, analyse and interpret dances,
recognising aspects of production and cultural /
historical contexts.
