Key Stage 4

BTEC Engineering Extended Certificate Level 2

The Edexcel BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Engineering is a 30 credit and 180 guided earning hour 9GLH. The qualification consists of two mandatory units plus options units that provide for a combined total of 30 credits.

The BTEC Extended First Certificate will give learners a basic understanding of what Engineering means and an insight into related local sectors in industry. The employer endorsed content is up-to date and relevant and reflects the blend of technical, interpersonal and project skills needed by anyone who is thinking about further study or earn-while-you-learn employment (Apprenticeship) in the Engineering sector in general.

Passing of all the offered units at level 2 will lead to an award at Level 2 (Grace C and above equivalent at GCSE).

Units Offered:

Unit 1 - Working Practices in Engineering - 5 credits
Unit 2 - Using and Interpreting Engineering Information - 5 credits
Unit 19 - Electronic Circuit and Testing - 10 credits
Unit 10 - Using Computer Aided Drawing Techniques in Engineering - 10 credits
Unit 18 - Engineering Marking out - 5 credits
Unit 21 - Production Planning - 5 credits

All units are internally assessed.

Each unit within the qualification has specified assessment grading criteria which are to be used for grading purposes. A summative unit grade can be awarded at pass, merit or distinction:

To achieve a Pass a learner must have satisfied all the pass criteria
To achieve a Merit a learner must additionally have satisfied all the merit criteria
To achieve a Distinction a learner must additionally have satisfied all the distinction criteria

A grading scale of pass, merit or distinction is applied to all units.

Assessment of progress and learning takes the following form:-

Witness statemented and observed assessment of practical capability and skills
School set, marked and externally verified and moderated unit written statements
